POROLAY LAY-FOMM 60 by Kai Parthy / Lay-Filaments
POROLAY is the name of a brand new series of 3D printer filaments. This new revolutionary line consists of foamy, felty filaments with a porous structure. With this filament you can build porous flexible objects.
The POROLAY line consists of four different types of filaments: LAY-FELT, LAY-TEKKKS, LAY-FOMM (40 & 60) and GEL-LAY. LAY-FELT and LAY-TEKKKS are similarly felt-like materials, though LAY-TEKKKS is thinner and more fibrous. LAY-FOMM and GEL-LAY are foamy and gel-like respectively. The composition of the POROLAY filaments consist of two different materials; a functional component, for example an Elastomer (i.e. a rubberlike) and a soluble component (e.g. PVA, sugar, salt, or soluble resins).
Note: the POROLAY filaments are specially designed for experimental use by experienced users.
POROLAY LAY-FOMM 60 is best characterized as foamy and highly porous. This material is made from a rubber-elastomeric polymer and a PVA-component. That means that part of this filament is water soluble. Once you rinse this material in water, the PVA component dissolves and the rubber polymer remains as your micro-porous object. LAY-FOMM 60 feels like soft rubber with holes and is therefore ideal for printing soft rubber-like objects, such as bendable suits and sponge-like objects, ink-reservoirs, bio-cells, micro-foam and elastics.
Your object printed with LAY-FOMM will feel strong and rigid but after rinsing the print with water the object becomes micro-porous & elastic. This makes it very suitable for printing soft and flexible rubber like objects. The LAY-FOMM 60 filament is very soft and has a shore hardness of A60, it is slightly firmer than LAY-FOMM 40 which has a shore hardness of A40. For the best result of maximum flexibility of the printed object we recommend to immerse the print in a basin of tap water for 1 to 4 days.
Features of POROLAY LAY-FOMM 60 filament
- Optimal for printing soft rubber objects
- Close to no warping
- Shore hardness of A60 (slightly firmer than LAY-FOMM 40)
- A heated bed is not necessary when printing with the LAY-FOMM 60
- Printed objects are hot-sealable after drying
- Micro-porous means micrometer-dimensions! Pores are not visible to naked eyes
- Printed objects can be filled not only with water, try to use emulsions of oil, glycerin, inks, salty solutions, or ionic liquids to make it conductive
- All the components of LAY-FOMM 60 are harmless and food safe. (FormFutura statement only)

United Kingdom - 3DFilaPrint
Note: All filament weights include packaging. Average weight for 5 metres of 1.75mm filament (without packaging) is 15 gms and 5 metres of 2.85mm filament is 35 gms.
Samples are shipped in a clear resealable bag, with a small sachet of silica gel.
Manufacturer recommended printer temperatures.
Extrusion Temp: Approx 210ºC
Platform Temp: Heated bed not required - However can print on a bed of 40ºC - 50ºC
Platform Materials: Recommended Blue Masking Tape
Please note, the above temperatures are only a guide.

5 & 10 Metre samples of POROLAY GEL-LAY by Kai Parthy / Lay-Filaments POROLAY GEL-LAY is a new filament which has a jelly-like feature. This material is made from a rubber-elastomeric polymer and a PVA-component. That means that part of this filament is water soluble. Once you rinse this material in water, the PVA component dissolves and the rubber polymer remains as your micro-porous object. The jelly feature of this material makes it ideal for printing artificial limbs or body parts for e.g. robotics, marine animals, floatables and all other squishy objects. GEL-LAY is also very suitable for use in bio-mechanics and objects in water.£3.80View Item
